OUR STORY

The Department of Oncology and Radiology of SumDU was established on 1 January 2020 in accordance with the order of the Rector №0928-I of 18 December 2019.
The course of oncology was a part of the departments of faculty and hospital surgery (head of the department – prof. M. G. Kononenko, head of the course – associate professor Andryushchenko V. V.), department of surgery with a course of pediatric surgery (head of the department – prof. Leonov V. V. ), department of orthopedics and traumatology with courses in anesthesiology and intensive care, oncology, emergencies, ophthalmology (head of the department – prof. V. D. Shchishchuk, head of the course – assistant I. O. Vynnychenko), department of surgery and oncology (head of course – assistant O. I. Vynnychenko). The course of radiology and radiation medicine was part of the Department of General Surgery, with a course of phthisiology and radiation medicine (Head of the Department – Prof. Duzhiy I. D., Head of the Course – Assistant Shevchenko Y.Y.).
By analogy with the classical medical institutions of Ukraine, the medical institute of SumDU for the first time combines the study of related disciplines – radiology, oncology and radiation medicine – within one department.
The department, in addition to these courses, includes courses in urology and ophthalmology.
The department was headed by Ihor Oleksandrovych Vynnychenko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor. Specialization – oncology, thoracic oncosurgery. Work experience in the oncology dispensary is more than 30 years. Research interest – the development of personalized methods of treatment of cancer patients based on the results obtained in clinical trials and molecular genetic data.
The department includes young and ambitious scientists – associate professors Moskalenko Y.V., Vynnychenko O.I., Sikora V.V., Shevchenko Y.Y., assistants Ternovenko O.A., Lekishvili S.E., Ivakhnyuk Y.P. In teaching and medical work the department is actively supported by the staff of Sumy Regional Clinical Oncology Center Volkogon A.D., Dmytruk V.O., Borsuk D.D., Gotvyansky V.V., Shevchenko V.V., who are part-time in the course of oncology; Sumy Regional Diagnostic Center Morgun T.D., Zhdanov Y.O., Kovchun V.V., Khandoga V.S., Ryabokon O.A., Osadcha A.O., Ryazantseva V.M., Matsyuk D.M., Shevchenko M.Y. – on the course of radiology.
The task of the team is to organically unite the main activities of the department – educational, scientific and medical.
On the basis of the department research is carried out under the state budget order “The role of ” LIQUID BIOPSY ” and tissue biopsy in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors” (topic 62.14-01.18 / 20.ZP.) “
From 2020, the Department of Oncology and Radiology provides training for doctors in cycles of thematic improvement, pre-certification cycles, internships and specialization courses “Modern aspects of surgery and radiology, chemotherapy in the choice of personalized treatment of patients with cancer of the main localizations.”
The Department of Oncology and Radiology is actively involved in the training of 5 graduate students and 2 clinical residents. Teachers of the department are members of European professional associations, annually attend scientific conferences and seminars, periodically undergo internships in domestic and European research institutions.
An important component is medical and diagnostic work, in particular the participation of the department in conducting international clinical trials. The head of the department Vynnychenko Igor Oleksandrovych is a responsible researcher and has experience in more than 100 clinical trials.
Teachers of the Department of Oncology and Radiology actively work with talented young people and involve students in writing student research papers, joint research articles, as well as in working on state budget topics.
